Holland College Applied Research plays a critical role in advancing innovation and economic development in PEI. By proactively securing research funding, Holland College offers industry, government and community partners accessible, affordable pathways to test new ideas and develop emerging technologies. These investments reduce risk for local companies, strengthen their competitiveness, and create the talent pipeline needed to support the province's future growth.
"Applied research projects provide invaluable learning opportunities for students and offer cost-effective research and business solutions to industry and community partners," says Natalie Mitton, Vice President - Academic & Applied Research. "College students participating in these projects learn to think critically, develop problem-solving skills and form industry connections - skillsets that are essential in building their careers."
Holland College President & CEO Alexander (Sandy) MacDonald said the college expects to grow its dedicated research capacity further with the opening of the new Atlantic Tactical Training & Innovation Centre at the Atlantic Police Academy.
"The opening of our state-of-the-art tactical training centre at the APA positions the college to launch a new research program to support our partners in public safety," MacDonald said.
"We are incredibly proud of the calibre of our Applied Research department. This recognition reflects the incredible work of our faculty, staff and students. Moving up 30 spots on the national ranking shows how committed we are to supporting the economic growth in this region and we look forward to the new opportunities to support our community in the years to come."
