PLACE LA CITÉ
A connectivity and meeting hub to bring students closer to the job market

December 19, 2016

La Cité is thrilled to announce it will begin the construction, in February 2017, of a new building with a unique concept, where learning through trial, demonstration and experience will be a priority. The MP for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell, Francis Drouin, confirmed the government of Canada will be injecting 7.8 million dollars in the project, through the Post-Secondary Institutions Strategic Investment Fund. The provincial government had announced its 11.2 million dollar contribution last February.

Place La Cité, slated for opening in September 2018, is an immersive infrastructure project boasting a high level of integrative technology that will cover 45 000 sq. ft. Based on a unique concept where physical and virtual facilities serve creativity, Place La Cité will offer a space where the postsecondary world rubs shoulders with the business community, designed for improving and developing new processes or products for local entrepreneurs.

"Place La Cité will push the student experience to a new realm of experiential and multidisciplinary learning," said Lise Bourgeois, President of the College. "This space, brimming with Francophone vitality and joie de vivre, will have the capacity to become a connectivity and meeting hub for our community's important events; it will also bring our students closer to the business world," she added.

The facility will include a transformable studio designed to accommodate some 350 seats; with its retractable walls removed, the space will hold 1,300 (standing room). With its avant-garde technologies, its collaborative and co-creation spaces, its rest-stops and its bistro - to name but a few of its features -, Place La Cité will become a vital hub. Furthermore, some of the funding received will go towards the expansion of spaces to increase our capacity to host community and sports events.

La Cité's Board of Directors will approve, in January, the choice of contractor for construction. You will be able to stay informed on the project through the IDDÉO section of the College's website at http://iddeo.ca/sujet/place-la-cite/.
