CAMOSUN COLLEGE
New degree for socially responsible business leaders

December 2, 2025

Camosun College's School of Business is proud to announce the launch of its Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Socially Responsible Management (SRM). This new BBA builds on Camosun's long-standing success delivering undergraduate business programming with emphasis on applied, community-engaged learning.

The program is designed to prepare future leaders to achieve positive organizational and community results through integrating business skills and management theory with sustainability, equity, and social impact.

"Students are looking for this type of education," says Carl Everitt, Associate Dean of the School of Business. "There's no longer the old-school way of thinking that business is purely about profit. Over the past 15 years, there's been a shift toward seeing business as a force for good, and students entering business programs are bringing these values with them. This is why we've created this degree program."

The BBA in SRM will support graduates to manage and lead in business and organizational environments including social enterprise, not-for-profit, public sector, and entrepreneurial ventures.

Flexible and applied learning

Camosun's BBA programs, including the SRM program, offer flexible pathways to help learners meet their educational and life goals. Students can study full- or part-time and have the option to complete a two-year diploma, gain work experience, and return to finish the degree - or they can dive into the full four-year degree with the option for co-op work terms.

Integrated applied learning components give students the opportunity to experience socially responsible management through social enterprise and collaboration with local partners. Relationships with local businesses are a hallmark of Camosun's business programs, and the SRM program will build on that strength.

"Level Ground Coffee Roasters has a long history of partnership with Camosun," says co-founder Stacey Toews, who served on the SRM advisory group. "This program will equip business managers with the tools to create an equitable and sustainable future."

Relevant approaches for a complex world

As a signatory to the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME), a United Nations Global Compact initiative, the School of Business strives to provide learning opportunities that engage students' awareness and understanding of global efforts to advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

"This international initiative provides a vehicle for faculty and students to engage and integrate applied pieces of the UN's goals and work as part of teaching, learning, and achievement of the degree's outcomes," adds Steven Rumpel, Acting Dean of the School of Business.

"The SRM program introduces a diverse, Indigenized, environmentally-conscious, and sustainable approach to an industry that once felt fixed to me," says Arden Haseltine, a business student engaged in the program's final review. "Seeing the learning outcomes and course plan makes me feel that I have finally found a career path meant for me."

Instructor Michael Pardy emphasizes the program's relevance: "I'm excited to see students strengthen their strategic and analytical abilities by expanding the range of models and world views they can draw upon when approaching complex challenges. By learning to see issues through social, environmental, economic, cultural, and ethical lenses, they develop a richer understanding of how they and the organizations they work with interact with the world around them."

The Bachelor of Business Administration in Socially Responsible Management (SRM) program starts in September 2026. Applications are being accepted now.
