Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) students now have direct access to more medical schools, following the signing of two new pathway agreements in the Caribbean.

KPU has partnered with two medical schools in the Caribbean to create new pathways for students.
New partnerships with the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC) and Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM) give KPU students streamlined access to Doctor of Medicine (MD) programs. The agreements also provide students with benefits such as application fee waivers, guaranteed interviews for eligible candidates, partner scholarships and housing supports.
"KPU is committed to creating meaningful international pathways that support the academic and professional goals of our students. These new agreements with AUC and RUSM provide eligible KPU graduates with application supports, financial benefits, and clinical training experiences across multiple countries, helping them take the next step toward medical careers. We are proud to offer globally relevant options that expand student choice and open doors to medical education in both Canada and the United States," says Carole St. Laurent, Associate Vice-President, KPU International.
AUC has MD program sites in Sint Maarten and Preston, England. Hands-on clinical training takes place in the U.S. and the United Kingdom. The RUSM campus is located in Barbados. Students finish their clinical sciences curriculum in years three and four at teaching hospitals in the U.S.
Both institutions also offer students placements in Canada in year four.
These new pathways are designed to support entry into residency training in Canada and the U.S., subject to program eligibility and licensing requirements.
"We're thrilled to partner with KPU to create a direct pathway for students aspiring to careers in medicine. With Canadian medical school admissions more competitive than ever, this partnership helps ease the challenges of the traditional application process, giving students a clear path to achieve their goals to become a physician. Canada is currently facing a serious shortage of doctors, and this partnership can help students achieve their goals while addressing Canada's urgent need for doctors," says Suji Jeong, Associate Director of Global Partnerships for AUC and RUSM.
KPU now has three student pathways to Caribbean medical schools, the other being with St. George's University. The agreements are among many established by KPU International's Office of Global Engagement, which builds relationships with institutions and organizations around the world to create impactful learning opportunities for KPU students.
More information about the latest partnerships, including admission requirements, is available on the KPU website.
