UNBC expands cybersecurity training in partnership with EC-Council

August 19, 2026

The University of Northern British Columbia is expanding its Continuing Studies new cybersecurity training pathway in partnership with EC-Council, now offering four globally recognized certifications to help meet the growing demand for cyber-skilled professionals.

"As cybersecurity threats continue to evolve, there is growing demand for professionals with the skills to help organizations protect their systems, networks and data," says UNBC Provost and Vice-President Academic Dr. Michel S. Beaulieu. "These four new programs expand accessible professional education opportunities through UNBC Continuing Studies and respond directly to emerging labour market needs."

The courses are designed for remote learning with dedicated access to a UNBC Learning Support Specialist who can assist with navigating the online platform, answering course-related questions and providing general student support. Through enrolment, students will automatically become eligible for the certification exams regardless of their employment experience.

"These new offerings create pathways for learners at different stages of their careers, from those looking to build foundational cybersecurity knowledge to experienced professionals seeking to advance their expertise in specialized areas of the field," says UNBC Continuing Studies Manager Nicole Neufeld. "By partnering with EC-Council, UNBC Continuing Studies students will get access to industry-recognized training and certifications that can help prepare them for in-demand careers in a rapidly evolving field."

The four new courses are:

  • Certified Cybersecurity Technician (CCT) - an entry-level, multi-domain cybersecurity certification designed to build foundational skills.

  • Certified Network Defender (CND) - a practitioner-level course focused on network security and defence.

  • Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) - EC-Council's flagship Ethical Hacking certification, delivering advanced training in offensive security techniques and cyber-range scenarios.

  • Certified SOC Analyst (CSA) - a Security Operations Centre-oriented certification providing training in Security Operations Centre workflows, security information and event management deployment, threat detection, incident response, log management, and threat-intelligence-driven defence.
