Members of Team Cambrian are competing at the Ontario Colleges Marketing Competition (OCMC), November 16-17 in Collingwood. In the past five years, Team Cambrian has earned eight medals at OCMC.
It's all about preparation, presentation, pitching and sealing the deal.
A team of students from Cambrian College's School of Business is primed for the annual Ontario Colleges Marketing Competition (OCMC) later this week in Collingwood.
Fourteen of Ontario's public colleges are taking part this year. Students will compete in a dozen categories including direct marketing, entrepreneurship, international business, research, job interviews and sales presentations.
Team Cambrian features 18 students from across Ontario and six other countries. They are enrolled in Cambrian's two-year Business diploma or four-year Honours Bachelor of Business Administration programs.
"I'm blown away by the energy around this event, as each year we have been able to grow and welcome more students to the team," says Marnie Staffen, a professor in the School of Business and co-lead coach for Team Cambrian. "The OCMC excitement is spreading around campus. This year, we're not just drawing from our faculty for coaches, but also from Cambrian's Marketing department and Career Centre. We are prepped and ready to compete."
In the past five years, members of Team Cambrian have won a total of eight medals at OCMC, including one gold, two silver, and five bronze.
"OCMC is such a life-changing experience; the best aspect is the connections you make along the way, and that's exactly why I decided to compete for a second year in a row," adds Brendan Lamothe of Timmins, who is in the third year of Cambrian's Bachelor of Business Administration program. "The training and competition are a crash course in the life and workplace skills required to succeed in the world business."
"The preparation for OCMC puts students in a challenging position to learn in an applied fashion, so they can refine their skills and take on the top marketing teams from across Ontario," adds Jean Beauchemin, a professor in Cambrian's School of Business and co-lead Team Cambrian coach. "With the support of their peers and coaches, they have been able to grow and come together as a team. These experiences will help our students develop a competitive advantage when they enter the workforce."
Cambrian College offers more than 20 programs in its School of Business, including one-year certificates, two-year diplomas, three-year advanced diplomas, one-year graduate certificates and full degree programs including Ontario's first three-year Bachelor of Business Administration degree and a four-year Honours Bachelor of Business Administration degree.
