Team Sudbury Brings Home the Hardware from the Skills Ontario Competition

Team Sudbury took a lot of trips to the podium this week at the Skills Ontario competition in Toronto.

Students from Cambrian College, the Rainbow District School Board, and Sudbury Catholic Schools combined to win 4 gold, 2 silver, and 4 bronze medals. Skills Ontario is Canada's largest skilled trades and technology competition and offers a unique opportunity for top students to demonstrate that they are the best in their fields for skilled trades.

Cambrian sent a compliment of 24 students to Skills Ontario, with an additional 28 team members from Rainbow Schools and 5 students joining from Sudbury Catholic Schools to round out Team Sudbury.

And they did not disappoint. Here is a summary of the medal count for Team Sudbury.

 Gold - 4 medals

Metal Fabricator (Fitter) - Bredy Wicks - the first time this category has been included at Skills Ontario.

"What a team," says Renee Scott, Cambrian's Director of Student Success and Recruitment and Cambrian's lead organizer for Team Sudbury.  "With 10 medals, our talented and amazing group showed off the amazing results that come with collaboration, team work and top-level training. I'm so impressed with everyone who went to Toronto to compete. We've proven again that Sudbury is a leader in the skilled trades."

Including this year's medal count, Cambrian College students have won approximately 60 medals at Skills Ontario and Skills Canada competitions since 2005.

"Once again Cambrian College is punching above its weight," adds Cambrian College President, Bill Best. "I want to make sure everyone gets credit - and that includes all the students, faculty, and support staff who have contributed to the success at Skills Ontario and Skills Canada. This was a true team effort."
