In May, 33 Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) students from five schools represented the board at the 2025 Skills Ontario Competition. SCDSB competitors won medals in four categories: two gold, one silver, and one bronze.
Medals were awarded to:
- Aiden P. and Zecheriah F. from Innisdale SS - gold in 3D Character Animation
- Landon F. from Collingwood CI - gold in Auto Service Technology
- Peyton M-P. from Banting Memorial HS - silver in Auto Painting
- Isaac M. from Banting Memorial HS - bronze in Architectural Technology and Design
As gold medalists, Aiden, Zecheriah, and Landon will represent Team Ontario at the Skills Canada National Competition in Regina, Saskatchewan from May 26 to 31.
The annual Skills Ontario Competition promotes skilled trades and technology careers to youth by hosting skilled trades competitions for thousands of students from across Ontario in dozens of contest areas. Participating students showcased their talents and competed for the title of best in their trade amongst the province's most skilled youth.
Participation in the Skills Ontario Competition is made possible through the dedication of technological education teachers and the support of the Experiential Learning program, Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP), and the Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) program.
