SIMCOE COUNTY DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
SCDSB students shine in science and skilled trades on national level

June 16, 2026

In May, Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) students represented their schools and the board, showcasing their knowledge at national competitions focused on science and the skilled trades and technology.

From May 23 to 30, five SCDSB students participated in the Canada-Wide Science Fair, representing Team Ontario. After two days of judging, STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) lab experiences at the University of Alberta, a STEM expo, and two days of public viewing, two SCDSB students were honoured with bronze medals in their categories. The medal recipients are:

  • Anne B. - Bear Creek SS, Petal to the Metal - using Chlorella Algae to Remove Heavy Metals from Mining Runoff
  • Jasper C. - Cookstown PS, Follow the Light

On May 28 and 29, two SCDSB students competed at the Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC), demonstrating their knowledge and skill in their chosen categories. The SCNC is a multi-trade and technology competition for students and apprentices across Canada, where qualifying participants gain hands-on work experience and show off their skills in skilled trade and technology careers to a large panel of industry-recognized judges and employers. Two SCDSB students were recognized with gold medals in their competition areas:

  • Peyton M-P., Banting Memorial HS - gold in Car Painting (teacher-coach Scott Fuller)
  • Sam C., Collingwood CI - gold in Automotive Service Technology (teacher-coach Kevin Dea)
