Students clean up at Ontario contest

Students from the Windsor Essex Catholic School Board have demonstrated exceptional talent and dedication at the recent 2025 Skills Ontario Competition, showcasing their abilities in a wide range of skilled trades and technologies. The board is proud to announce the outstanding achievements of its secondary school students, who competed against top talent from across the province.

Leading the way with a gold medal is Katie Gaune, (F.J. Brennan) who secured 1st place in the highly competitive Brick Masonry event. This remarkable achievement highlights Katie's skill, precision, and commitment to excellence in her craft.

In Architectural Technology and Design, Alisa Fedotova (St. Joseph) earned a silver medal, ranking 2nd in the province. Her impressive performance demonstrates a strong understanding of architectural principles and design proficiency. Additionally, Tylor Deschamps (St. Joseph) also represented the board well in this category, finishing in 14th place.

The culinary arts were also a strong area for the board's students. In Baking, Olivia St. John (St. Anne) achieved an impressive 5th place, while Matthew Verzosa (St. Anne) also placed within the top ten, ranking 10th. In the Culinary competition, Ava Mavrantzas, (St. Anne) finished in 13th place, and Anthony Doran (Holy Hames) placed 20th, further highlighting the culinary talent within the Windsor Essex Catholic School Board.

Other notable performances include Brittan Owchar (St. Joseph) who ranked 8th in Plumbing, showcasing a strong aptitude for this essential trade. In Auto Service Technology, Ricardo Baho (St. Joseph) achieved a respectable 23rd place.

In other skilled trades, Sabeeha Greesh (St. Joseph)  competed in Hairstyling, finishing in 29th place, and the team of Jayden O'Bryan (St. Joseph) and Mathieu Jakovcic (St. Joseph) represented the board in Carpentry - Team of 2, finishing in 35th place. Their participation and effort are commendable.

The Skills Ontario Competition is the largest skilled trade and technology competition in Canada, providing a platform for students to showcase their skills and explore potential career paths. The success of the Windsor Essex Catholic School Board students underscores the importance of skilled trades education and the exceptional training provided within their schools.
