On behalf of the British Columbia School Trustees Association, we are thrilled to see the recent announcements from the BC Government highlighting greater investment in capital funding, including the use of prefabricated additions to create new classroom spaces across the province. These investments will help support growing student enrollment and provide more opportunities for students to learn in safe, modern, and upgraded environments.
We are particularly encouraged to see land purchased for the construction of new French-language schools, as well as 3,000 new classroom seats opening across BC schools this September in areas like Trail, Abbotsford, Kelowna, Delta, Richmond, and Surrey, with even more on the way in Langley coming soon. While a portion of this funding had been announced previously, we are encouraged to see progress on new spaces, along with additional investments now being allocated to support these projects.
Creating safer, more modern learning environments is essential for children to thrive. While we recognize there is still more work to be done to meet the growing needs of public education in BC, we are pleased to see these positive steps forward and commitment to student safety and success.
Let's continue to lead together, collaborate meaningfully, and advocate with dedication to ensure every child in British Columbia has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.
