Hosted by the Honourable Lois E. Mitchell, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta, the Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA), presented the first-ever Honouring Spirit: Indigenous Student Awards at Government House on Saturday, May 12.

These awards offer the opportunity to celebrate the unique qualities of students who embrace their own gifts, strengths and potential while celebrating the ways of their people. They inspire their peers, teachers, education leaders and community members while respecting the agency of other students to do the same in their own ways.
"On behalf of the ASBA Board of Directors, I am so proud to be part of this celebration. The stories of determination, resiliency and community spirit these 12 kids and all nominees have shown is astounding. Children who encourage their peers, offer their time for community events and show pride in their cultures are inspirations for us all."
Mary Martin, President, ASBA
"I'm inspired by the bright young people being recognized with the Honouring Spirit Indigenous Student Award. They've worked hard to develop their own wonderful and unique gifts while encouraging those around them to do the same. It's a pleasure to learn from them and to help celebrate their accomplishments."
Her Honour, the Honourable Lois E. Mitchell, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta
