Northern Gateway Public Schools is pleased to welcome Ben Martin into a new role as Acting Assistant Principal at Onoway Elementary School for the 2026-27 school year.
Mr. Martin is no stranger to NGPS. Since joining Darwell School in 2018 as a Grade 6 teacher, he has made a meaningful impact on students and the broader school community. Known for his positive attitude, strong communication skills, and initiative, he has earned the respect of both students and colleagues. His teaching experience spans a wide range of K-12 subjects, bringing depth and versatility to his practice. Beyond the classroom, Mr. Martin is an active and enthusiastic presence in school life, supporting students in academics, physical education, and the many teams and extracurricular activities he has led.

Superintendent Kevin Bird shared his support for the appointment:
"Ben is an avid team player who excels at building strong, collaborative relationships with students, parents, and staff. His understanding of the Quality Learning Environment, along with his proven leadership skills and knowledge of inclusive practices and the Collaborative Response Model will make him a valuable addition to the Onoway Elementary team."
Mr. Martin began his teaching career in Fort Chipewyan, where he worked with K-12 students across a variety of subjects. During that time, he also served as a Lead Inclusion Teacher and coached and coordinated numerous sports teams and events. Since moving to Darwell School, he has continued to demonstrate a strong commitment to supporting the diverse academic, social, and emotional needs of students, while remaining actively involved as a coach and community volunteer. This school year, Mr. Martin is serving as a Junior High Physical Education and Athletic Director with Parkland School Division.

Mr. Martin holds a Bachelor of Physical Education degree, a Bachelor of Education degree, and a Diploma in Technology and Skilled Trades Education from Memorial University. He is also a member of the NGPS' Compass Leadership Program.
