BROCK UNIVERSITY
Brock names new Vice-President, External

April 15, 2026

Brock University has appointed Alexandra Lawson as its next Vice-President, External, bringing an experienced and highly regarded external relations leader to the University's senior leadership team.

Lawson joins Brock from McMaster University, where she most recently served as Special Advisor to the President, supporting institution-wide priorities and complex initiatives. She previously led the University's public affairs portfolio, overseeing government relations and external engagement.

With nearly 15 years of experience in the post-secondary sector, complemented by more than a decade in public affairs consulting, Lawson brings a deep understanding of how integrated external relations strategies can advance institutional priorities.

Throughout her career, she has built strong relationships across municipal, provincial and federal governments and has led advocacy efforts resulting in significant funding and policy outcomes. Her work has contributed to more than $700 million in investments and financial gains in support of institutional priorities.

"Alexandra brings the experience and strategic perspective to help advance Brock's work as a university deeply connected to its region," says Brock President and Vice-Chancellor Lesley Rigg. "Our strength is rooted not only in academic excellence, but also in the relationships and partnerships that extend our impact beyond campus."

At Brock, Lawson will oversee government relations, advancement, alumni engagement, and marketing and communications, supporting a co-ordinated approach to the external portfolio.

"Brock University is a special place with a strong commitment to its students, its community and the future of Niagara and beyond. I'm honoured to be joining the University at such an exciting time in its evolution," says Lawson. "I'm looking forward to working with the External Relations team and with faculty and staff across campus, to deepen relationships with alumni, donors, partners, governments and the broader community to help advance Brock's priorities and impact."

Lawson joins Brock on May 25.
