This year, Atlantic Canada was recognized for helping employees and their families give back to the community, as part of a range of forward-thinking policies.
In a MediaCorp news release, managing editor Kristina Leung says: "Employers in Atlantic Canada recognize that their employees are keen to make a difference in the local community. This year's winning employers understand that it's not just about making charitable donations. It's about providing benefits like paid time off so employees can volunteer with local charitable groups without having to worry about losing income or precious vacation time. In many cases, employers are matching these volunteer hours with donations, which is an effective way to encourage volunteerism."
Throughout the past year, UNB has sought out inclusive ways to empower our community and enhance connections with our local areas.
Notable examples of this commitment are the recent launch of the UNB Student Union (UNBSU) Campus Food Bank supported by Greener Village, as well as the inaugural UNB Giving Day, a collaborative effort led by the Students' Representative Council, UNBSU and the UNB Associated Alumni. This initiative aimed to address food insecurity across our campuses and raised a commendable $47,165, directly benefiting UNB students.
"Every time UNB is recognized as one of Atlantic Canada's Top Employers, we know that it is only possible because of the great people within this institution who care deeply about each other and their community," said UNB President and vice-chancellor, Dr. Paul Mazerolle. "Efforts like Giving Day show how mighty our small community is and the incredible things we can achieve when we come together to support one another."
Recipients are evaluated by the editors of Canada's Top 100 Employers using the same eight criteria as the national competition: Workplace; Work Atmosphere & Social; Health, Financial & Family Benefits; Vacation & Time Off; Employee Communications; Performance Management; Training & Skills Development; and Community Involvement.
