HALL SCHOOL OF BUSINESS AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Okanagan College launches redesigned accounting program

March 6, 2026

The Hall School of Business and Entrepreneurship at Okanagan College is launching a new accounting program, designed to meet industry demands and support people who want to advance their careers with modern skills.

Applications are now open for the Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Accounting, which can be taken online or in person. The new program streamlines pathways into the accounting profession, leading to a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.

"We designed the program to remove unnecessary barriers while ensuring graduates are well prepared for CPA pathways and accounting careers," said Dean of the Hall School of Business and Entrepreneurship Joe Baker. "This new diploma reflects a careful balance between academic rigor, professional relevance and student realities."

The accelerated program for people who already have a bachelor's degree aligns with CPA preparatory requirements for an accounting major, shortens time to completion and lowers overall cost for students, responding directly to feedback from the industry and learners.

The program was shaped through industry consultation, including input from OC's Program Advisory Committee (PAC), which includes local industry partners, along with CPA firms across British Columbia.

It also includes specific instruction on Indigenous relations, aligned to the College's commitment to Truth and Reconciliation.

"In addition to industry consultation, we intentionally embedded Indigenous content developed by CPA BC," Dean Baker added. "This ensures graduates are prepared to practice accounting in a way that reflects reconciliation commitments and contemporary professional standards."

There is strong demand for CPAs across British Columbia and Canada, reinforcing the importance of a program that is accessible to those interested in advancing their careers.

"This program positions graduates to move efficiently into the CPA preparatory stream while meeting a critical workforce need," said Dean Baker. "The practical, responsive redesign reflects both student feedback and employer expectations. I'd like to thank everyone involved in developing the new program for their hard work and dedication. This is what we do at our Hall School of Business and Entrepreneurship. We work in collaboration with industry to support students."

The Hall School of Business and Entrepreneurship at Okanagan College was founded in February 2026 with a $10-million donation from the Hall Family Foundation, which will go towards helping to develop the next generation of local businesses and to support entrepreneurs.
