ST. LAWRENCE COLLEGE
SLC Becomes First College in Ontario to Receive Seven-Year Nursing Accreditation

June 25, 2026

St. Lawrence College (SLC) is proud to announce that its Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) program has received a seven-year accreditation from the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN), making it the first college in Ontario to achieve Path B accreditation for a Standalone BScN degree. SLC has achieved the maximum accreditation term possible. This accreditation applies to SLC's BScN program across all three campuses, as well as its Practical Nurse to BScN Bridge program.

This milestone means that SLC's program meets national standards for nursing education. SLC's next accreditation review will not be required until 2033, explains Laralea Stalkie, Dean, Health, Wellness, & Community Services and Academic Operations (Interim) at SLC.

"This achievement is a direct reflection of the dedication, professionalism, and teamwork shown across all groups involved in our nursing program. I am incredibly proud of the commitment to excellence in nursing education that this accreditation recognizes."

Achieving CASN accreditation requires a comprehensive, multi-stage review, including evidence demonstrating how it meets national standards across areas including curriculum, faculty qualifications, governance, resources, and student outcomes, Stalkie explained.

CASN evaluates key features such as:

  •   whether a program's curriculum is current and aligned with entry-to-practice competencies
  •   if faculty and leadership are qualified and engaged
  •   if resources such as clinical placements, labs, and technology are adequate
  •   whether strong quality assurance processes are in place to support continuous improvement

For students, the accreditation confirms they are enrolled in a program that delivers high-quality, evidence-informed education aligned with national standards, preparing them to enter practice as competent, safe nurses. The recognition also enhances graduates' confidence and employability. For faculty, the seven-year accreditation is a formal validation of the quality of their teaching, scholarship, and program design, while reinforcing a culture of ongoing reflection and innovation.

"This is an incredible achievement for our college, and I am so proud of our nursing faculty," said Glenn Vollebregt, SLC President and CEO. "We have a long tradition of providing excellent nursing training, and with this validation from the accreditation body, we know that our graduates are among the best educated and trained in the province."
