CNC celebrates successful Student Welcome and Orientation

Hundreds of new and returning students connected with classmates, employees and campus resources during a busy week of Student Welcome and Orientation activities at the College of New Caledonia (CNC).

Activities took place throughout the week, giving students opportunities to explore the campus, learn more about their programs and schools, meet faculty and staff, and become familiar with the services and supports available to them.

Approximately 900 students attended the Student Welcome barbecue, enjoying beautiful weather along with music, games and activities. More than 500 students participated in school welcome events, while CNC's campus ambassadors helped approximately 450 students at the information desk over five days.

The week also included program orientations, campus tours and activities in the Aboriginal Resource Centre (ARC), which provided students with a welcoming and creative space to connect. More than 40 students attended an on-campus movie night, while 78 students took part in the Trades and Tech Youth Orientation on Wednesday evening.

"Starting college is an exciting time, but it can also feel overwhelming, and those first experiences on campus matter," said CNC President Cindy Heitman. "Student Welcome and Orientation is about more than learning where your classroom is. It's about making connections, finding your community and knowing there are people here who want to see you succeed. Seeing students and employees outside together, enjoying the beautiful weather, music and activities throughout the week was a wonderful way to begin the academic year."

The success of Student Welcome and Orientation was made possible by employees across CNC who helped organize events, answer questions, lead tours, welcome students into programs and schools, and provide the many services that support students throughout their time at the college.

Student Welcome and Orientation activities are part of CNC's ongoing commitment to supporting students as they begin their studies and build connections within the college community.
