Dr. Monty Bryant, a member of the Camosun College Board since 2019, has been elected as the new Chair of the Camosun College Board of Governors. Bryant assumed the role on Sept. 22, 2026, taking over from outgoing Board Chair Lindsay Kearns.

"It gives me great pleasure to welcome Monty as the new Board Chair of Camosun College. I also want to thank Lindsay for her passionate leadership and service as our Board Chair over the last year," says Lane Trotter, President of Camosun. "The college remains committed to delivering applied, innovative and relevant education to our learners."
In Bryant's previous term on Camosun's Board of Governors (2019-2025), he served as Chair of the Board from 2020 to 2023. He has served as Chair of the Board Executive and Governance Policy Review Committees and was a member of the Board Risk & Audit, Cybersecurity Subcommittee, and Finance Committees. Bryant served as Liaison to the Camosun Foundation Board and Education Council. He also chaired the President Search Committee in 2021 and was a member of the Camosun College Foundation Board from 2018-2020. As Chair, Bryant assisted with the Camosun 50th year anniversary celebrations, presented workshops for CICAN on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, as well as the selection process and onboarding of a new president. For the Ministry of Education, he presented two workshops on the selection and onboarding of a new president.
Bryant is a former Associate Superintendent with the Greater Victoria School District, overseeing K-12 schools, educational staffing, curriculum, human resources, special education, Indigenous education, principal leadership, and professional development and evaluation programs. He previously served as a teacher, vice-principal, and principal.
Before entering education, Bryant worked as an RTR-certified X-ray technologist at Calgary General Hospital and St. Joseph's General Hospital in Dawson Creek, BC. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Calgary, a Master of Education from the University of Victoria, and a Doctor of Education from Nova Southeastern University.
Bryant has extensive board governance experience, serving on the boards of the Victoria Conservatory of Music, the Belfry Theatre (including two years as vice chair, overseeing executive evaluations), and Big Brothers Big Sisters for 26 years, where he led the organization's executive director evaluation process.

"Our strong community at Camosun is a unique and inspiring tribute to the impact that engaged and committed Board members, administrators, president, faculty, staff, and students can have when we collaborate and work together."
Kearns served as Board Chair from 2025 to 2026. As of Fall 2026, she has returned to the role of Vice Chair, a position she previously held from 2023 to 2025. Kearns chairs the Board Risk and Audit Committee and the Cybersecurity Sub-committee and is a member of the Board Executive Committee. She has previously served on the Board Finance committee and as Liaison on the PISE Board of Directors.
"I was honoured when elected Chair and have experienced nothing but kindness and support from my fellow board members, as well as the senior leadership at Camosun," says Kearns. "I know Monty will continue to lead our Board with strength and integrity."
Camosun College is a public post-secondary institution. The Board of Governors administers the college on behalf of the B.C. Government and the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills.
