Cathedral High School Celebrates 30 Years at 30 Wentworth

October 17, 2025

The Cathedral High School community gathered on October 1, 2025, to celebrate its Opening Mass, marking 30 years at 30 Wentworth and the anniversary of the blessing and opening of Cathedral High School at 30 Wentworth Street North. The voices of the Cathedral choir filled the gym as students, staff and guests came together in faith and pride for the milestone celebration. The liturgy was celebrated by His Excellency, the Most Reverend Douglas Crosby, O.M.I., Bishop of Hamilton, with Father Jarek Pachocki, O.M.I., Associate Pastor of St. Patrick's Parish and a close friend of the Cathedral school community.

Bishop Crosby, who recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood, expressed his joy in returning to Cathedral, a school that holds a special place in the heart of the Hamilton Catholic community. Drawing on the Gospel of Luke, he offered students a message of encouragement and hope for the year ahead.

"Lean in. Make a difference," he said. "All of you have been given talents galore and the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Say kind and supportive words, care for those who need a hand, and lift up those who are down on their luck. If you lean in during your time here, you will be richly blessed, and you will be a blessing for others. Start here. Start now."

Director of Education David Hansen brought greetings on behalf of the Board of Trustees and senior administration, reflecting on the school's rich history and the generations who have shaped it.

"The thousands who have been part of Cathedral High School students, teachers, staff, priests and all who have served this community have contributed to the formation and betterment of the world we now live in," he said. "You only have to look at the Wall of Distinction and the War Memorial to see the impact of Gaels on our world."

Principal Kevin Monaco offered words of gratitude to Bishop Crosby and Father Jarek for their spiritual leadership, and to the many staff, students and alumni who helped organize the celebration.

"Thank you to our 30 at 30 co-chairs, Mr. Taylor and Mr. Trabucco, whose connection to the school began when they entered as Grade 9s, and as they grew, so too did their love for this school," he said. "To our chaplain, Ms. O'Keefe, your passion for ministry and your LIT team breathe life into this house every day. To our staff, you are the builders and caregivers of this home and of these students every day. And to our alumni and Catholic leaders who came before us, thank you for laying the foundation upon which we stand. May God bless this school community."

As the Cathedral community marks 30 years at 30 Wentworth, it remains a place where faith and learning meet, inspiring students to live with courage, serve with compassion and recognize Christ in one another.
