Progress continues on the Kincardine District Senior School (KDSS) replacement build project with another significant milestone reached.
Bluewater District School Board (BWDSB) has received funding approval by the Ministry of Education for the purchase of a 15.71-acre property in Kincardine, bringing the new school build one step closer to fruition. The property location and timeline for completion will be announced at a later date.
Meanwhile, the landowner has submitted a severance application as board staff continue to work with the design team, consultants, and other partners to ensure the project continues to move forward in a timely and efficient manner.
To save time and costs, the build will follow a modified repeat design of the current John Diefenbaker Senior School in Hanover. A public consultation survey was held in October to gather feedback on the design and provide a glimpse of the preliminary floor plan and renderings.
"We are extremely thankful to the Ministry of Education for approving our request for Land Priorities funding to support the location of the new KDSS," says BWDSB Superintendent of Business Services and Treasurer Andrew Low. "We appreciate their recognition of the need for a replacement build in the community, and the continued strong support of our municipal and other partners who are working diligently to get shovels in the ground as soon as possible."
Once constructed, the new two-story KDSS will accommodate students from Grades 7 to 12. Ongoing updates on the project will continue to be posted on the New Build - KDSS designated web page.
