On June 5, The Calgary Construction Association (CCA) joined Rocky View Schools to celebrate Honour The Work skilled trades curriculum supplement program implemented earlier in the academic year. The program is estimated to have reached more than 12,000 students across 26 schools with hands-on learning about careers in construction and the vital role of skilled trades.
Developed by educators and supported by industry leaders, Honour The Work is designed to spark curiosity and shift perceptions about careers in the skilled trades. At its core are curriculum-aligned STEAMS Kits (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math, and Skills), which bring learning to life through interactive, hands-on activities tied directly to real-world construction applications.
Each kit equips teachers with ready-to-use lesson plans, digital resources, materials, and diverse children's literature, helping students see how what they learn in the classroom connects to meaningful, in-demand careers.
"This builds on growing momentum across Calgary to strengthen connections between education and industry, because understanding career possibilities early matters. Time and again, we see how powerful it is when students discover new possibilities," said Bill Black, President and CEO of the Calgary Construction Association.
"When students can connect their curiosity and creativity to careers in construction, it opens doors for them, and for the future of our industry. At the same time, when educators are empowered with real-world insight, they can better champion these pathways for their students, helping shape a more informed, inspired next generation.
"The rollout in Rocky View Schools reflects a broader, shared goal: building stronger bridges between classrooms and careers. Initiatives like Honour the Work, along with hands-on events, educator tours, and industry partnerships, help teachers and students alike better understand how science, technology, math, and creativity intersect in the skilled trades. We are committed to doing our part in supporting the success of this program at Rocky View Schools.
"Together, we are building momentum and building the future of skilled trades in our communities."
