DISTRICT OF SUMMERLAND
District of Summerland Launches Free After-School Active Play Club at Summerland Elementary School

September 17, 2026

Registered students of Summerland Elementary School will soon have the opportunity to take part in a new free after-school program designed to give children a welcoming place to play, stay active, connect with friends and build healthy habits.

The After-School Active Play Club, offered by the District of Summerland Recreation Department and funding from the BC Alliance for Healthy Living, will be held at Summerland Elementary School every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:45 to 4:45 p.m. The program will start in late September and run through June 2027.

The program will provide children with opportunities for outdoor, unstructured play and time with friends in a supportive and supervised environment after the school day ends. Funding will provide free registration for up to 18 participants, as well as an after-school snack and new play equipment.

Registration information will be available through the District of Summerland's online recreation registration system (https://summerland.perfectmind.com/) in the coming weeks. Families are encouraged to follow Summerland Recreation on Facebook at www.facebook.com/SummerlandRec for updates about registration and program details.

Summerland Elementary School staff will also help ensure families are informed when registration opens.

Staffing opportunities

The District of Summerland is also looking for contractors to help deliver the program. Individuals interested in working in a fun, active after-school environment are encouraged to contact Recreation at recreation@summerland.ca for more information.
