Something is happening across the OCSB.
Our communities are growing. More students are choosing our schools. And from new classrooms and portables to major additions and entirely new schools, we are making room for them.
Some of those changes are already visible.
This school year, 48 additional portable classrooms are supporting students across the OCSB. New learning spaces have been created at existing schools: 9 elementary schools have new play structures, and 11 have new outdoor classrooms.
Accessibility improvements are also being constructed at 18 schools, including universal and barrier-free washrooms, ramps, door operators and elevators.
And that's only part of the story.
Building Where Our Communities are Growing
In Richmond, construction continues on a 12-classroom addition to St. Philip Elementary School. Two new kindergarten rooms are expected to open this fall, with the remaining 10 classrooms opening in March 2027.
In Fernbank, construction is underway on a new elementary school scheduled to open in September 2027.
Work has also begun on the new Fernbank Catholic High School. When it opens in September 2028, it will create 1,439 additional student spaces.
More Schools and Spaces are Coming
Planning is moving forward on several other projects across Ottawa.
A six-classroom addition to Guardian Angels Elementary School in Stittsville is planned to open in September 2027.
The OCSB's newly acquired school at 8 Redpine Drive in Fisher Glen is also planned to welcome students in September 2027, with consultation underway on its attendance boundary and opening grade structure.
Work continues on plans for new elementary and secondary schools in Mer Bleue, as well as an addition to St. Patrick's High School.
Improving the Schools We Already Have
Growth isn't only about building new schools.
It also means continuing to invest in the schools our students attend today.
Across the OCSB, renewal projects include HVAC and mechanical systems, roofs, plumbing, electrical systems, flooring, paving, lighting, washrooms and accessibility improvements.
Some projects continue during the school year, with plans in place to minimize disruption and maintain safe school operations.
Making Room for What's Next
Schools grow along with the communities they serve.
Sometimes that means moving a portable. Sometimes it means turning one large space into two classrooms. And sometimes it means building an entirely new school.
