A new pathway agreement between Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) and Bond University is opening up new opportunities for KPU students to pursue a law degree on Australia's Gold Coast.
Many KPU alumni have chosen Bond University to pursue their legal studies, successfully returning to Canada to build their careers or continuing their work internationally. This new formal partnership will make the pathway to pursue a Juris Doctor (JD) degree even more accessible to KPU students.
"This agreement further expands KPU students' access to international learning opportunities. Studying abroad can have significant benefits for students, including providing a global professional network for life and opening career opportunities not previously considered," says Carole St. Laurent, Associate Vice-President, KPU International.
KPU already offers an introductory program in legal education, the Certificate in Legal Administrative Studies, which introduces students to various areas of law through career-focused, hands-on studies. The partnership with Bond allows students to take their legal education further.
"By combining KPU's strengths of hands-on learning and career-focused training with Bond's expertise in legal education, we can provide our learners with the educational foundation required to build a career in law," says Alia Somji, Dean pro tem, Melville School of Business at KPU.
Through its partnership with Bond and other institutions around the world, KPU is able to offer a variety of meaningful global learning opportunities to students.
"Our faculty are doing incredible work in preparing students for the future by setting them up for educational success both here at home and across the globe. Partnerships such as this allow KPU to expand current offerings for students and open the door for learners to thrive in the path of their choice," says Dr. Shelley Boyd, Dean, Faculty of Arts.
Bond's law programs provide an enriching learning experience that prepares students for a legal career back home in Canada or beyond, with experienced professors, small classes, an international perspective and an extensive legal skills program. Bond also offers students a chance to gain practical legal experience through opportunities such as an on-campus law clinic and work experience placements.
"Bond University has been training aspiring Canadian lawyers for more than 25 years, and many of our Canadian graduates have successfully returned home to build their legal careers or gone on to work internationally," says Natasha Racco, International Regional Manager for Canada at Bond University. "An exceptional student experience, accelerated timetable and strong links to the Canadian legal industry have made Bond a top choice for Canadian students."
To prepare students for the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) exams required in Canada, Bond offers four Canadian law classes as electives and another as a complimentary online class.
Bond University graduates have pursued a wide range of legal careers, including practicing lawyers across Canada, corporate counsel and legal advisors, public sector legal professionals and legal academics and researchers.
More information on the program benefits and admission pathway to Bond University is available on the KPU website.
