Classrooms were bustling. Boomer was roaming. And visitors were learning about the benefits of having Brock University in their community.
The University's new Burlington Campus welcomed hundreds of people to tour the space on Saturday, May 2, as part of the City of Burlington's Robert Bateman Community Centre Phase 1 opening celebration.
The event, hosted by the City to highlight the new centre's offerings, gave Brock employees and students a chance to connect with residents, showcase the campus within the community centre and highlight programs and other resources available to the public.
The day kicked off with formal remarks by local elected officials followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony that also included Brock senior leaders and representatives from the community centre's other on-site partners: Burlington Public Library, TechPlace and Halton District School Board.

Throughout the afternoon, community members engaged in family-friendly interactive activities held in all areas of the community centre.
"This vibrant space is a true reflection of what is possible when community comes together," says Lesley Rigg, Brock's President and Vice-Chancellor. "Brock is proud to be a part of the Robert Bateman Community Centre, working alongside the City and its dedicated partners to strengthen ties between community and education."
Visitors to Brock's Burlington Campus a hub for the University's Teacher Education and Applied Disability Studies programs explored stations in labs and classrooms focused on fun, hands-on learning in science, mathematics, language, mentorship, music, drama and dance as well as 3D printing.
Members of the Hadiya'dagénhahs First Nations, Métis and Inuit Student Centre were on hand to share beading kits and land acknowledgement resources, while Brock Library, in its dedicated space next to the community centre's Burlington Public Library New Appleby branch, welcomed young visitors for story time sessions with Department of Educational Studies Professor and author Kari-Lynn Winters.
Community also had the opportunity to connect with members of Brock's Alumni Relations, Professional and Continuing Studies, Student Recruitment, Student Life and Success, Brock LINC and Co-op, Career and Experiential Education teams, learning about different opportunities available through the University.
