"There are many different stories of our times at Concordia many trajectories taken, avenues explored and friendships forged," said Andie Zeliger, former manager of academic staff in the Office of the Provost, addressing more than 200 fellow faculty and staff retirees at a special celebration. The event honoured those who had retired in 2025 and 2026, including participants in the Voluntary Retirement Program.
Isabelle Blais, who recently joined Concordia as associate vice-president of human resources, spoke of the lasting impact employees have made throughout their careers.
"I am truly amazed by the number of years many of you have dedicated. This speaks volumes about Concordia as a place to build a meaningful and lasting career," she said, noting that Concordia has been recognized among Montreal's Top Employers for 11 consecutive years.
Remarkable accomplishments
"Today is about recognizing careers that, in many cases, span decades", says Michael Di Grappa, vice-president of services and sustainability. "Careers built quietly, steadily, and absolutely essential to the life of this institution."
For many retirees, the university has been home for several years. Among them, 89 people spent more than 30 years at Concordia, 10 of whom dedicated 50 years of service. One faculty member was celebrated for their 60 years at the university.
"You leave this university better than you found it, and there is no higher compliment than that," adds Di Grappa.
In his remarks, Concordia President and Vice-Chancellor Graham Carr highlighted how each retiree has contributed to some of the institution's most remarkable accomplishments. Examples include being named as one of Canada's Greenest Employers, and the John Molson School of Business earning the number one spot in Bloomberg Businessweek's Canadian rankings.
"I hope you feel a deep sense of pride, as I do, at being part of such an incredible network of friends, mentors and colleagues," Carr said.
He also reminded attendees that their influence extends far beyond the walls of the institution. Through their passions, creativity and generosity, they have strengthened their communities as well as the university, he said.
"Just as you've left your mark on Concordia, I know each of you will continue to contribute to causes and projects you believe in," Carr added.
